Coffee mornings

For many years now we have held a coffee morning on the first Saturday of every month to help raise money for local groups and charities, and it also a great opportunity for a get together and a good chat.

There is always a raffle to purchase tickets for, always with a surprising number of prizes to win, primarily donated by those attending the coffee morning. It is not unusual to see the same prize re-appearing! Then what would a coffee morning be with out some freshly baked cakes to purchase.

A typical coffee morning will raise in excess of £200, we are always surprised by the collective generosity of the people of our community and their enthusiastic support of the monthly cause. In the last few months we have raised funds for Updale Reading Room, Rosedale Church, Ryedale Special Families, the Updale Women’s Institute and Rosedale History Society.

February’s 2023 coffee morning was for Rosedale Football and Cricket Teams, raising incredible £455 to help them with their many expenses. It has to be said that some of the team members were more interested in drinking beer than coffee, luckily our drinks license enables us to trade from 10am. We should point out that we in no way accept any responsibility for Rosedale F.C. defeat later that day.

Back last year during a coffee morning raising funds for Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team we were privileged to enjoy a talk given by one of the team’s members on their many activities.

One of the years highlights is when we host Rosedale History Society who always provide a highly interesting display of old photographs and documents. One not to miss for certain.

Whilst we do our best to focus on local causes, coffee mornings are also held for regional and national charities including Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Yorkshire Cancer Research, The British Heart Foundation and the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.

Sadly the annual inclusion of a coffee morning for Hartoft Chapel is no more following it closure in the autumn of 2022. Lets hope the chapels closure is an isolated case, but it does underline the need for continued fund raising in the community.

As we move in to 2024 we have coffee mornings scheduled as follows

6th of January - Yorkshire Air Ambulance

3rd of February - Rosedale Sports Teams

2nd of March - Rosedale Abbey School

6th of April - Moorsbus

4th of May - Scarborough & Ryedale Mountain Rescue

1st of June - Updale Reading Room (Rosedale’s Village Hall)

6th of July - Yorkshire Cancer Research

3rd of August - Ryedale Special Families

7th of September - Save Rosedale Church Fund

5th of October - Rosedale Community Fund

2nd of November - Updale Women’s Institute and Christmas Craft Fair

7th of December - Rosedale History Society

Everyone is welcome, local residents, visitors to the area and it is always great to see those that have had connections with Rosedale in the past returning to meet up with old friends.

We look forward to welcoming you to a coffee morning at the Coach House Inn very soon.
