Loc-AlE

The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) LocAle initiative encourages pubs to source locally brewed beer to help reduce ‘beer miles’ from the brewery to pub cellar. The LocAle scheme was launched in 2007 by CAMRA’s Nottingham branch and then rolled out to the rest of the UK, and the Coach House Inn is an accredited participant and registered with our local York CAMRA branch https://york.camra.org.uk/

Since 2016 the Coach House Inn has maintained a policy of only sourcing our cask ales from Yorkshire based breweries and we are lucky enough to have many that fall within the 30 miles radius required to qualify as a LocAle. For us that area stretches from Cleveland to the outskirts of York and southwards to the Wolds. LocAle breweries that we regularly feature on our bar include Helmsley Brewery, Wold Top Brewery, Whitby Brewery and Scarborough Brewery. The variety of beers available to us in Yorkshire are incredible, and there is certainly no need to us to have to look too far for our beers, and we do our best to ensure we have as wide a range of different types of beer available at any one time.

Of course Rosedale is not too far away from the nationally renowned brewing centers of Tadcaster and Masham. Masham is the home of both Theakstons and Black Sheep breweries, and either one of their ‘Best beers’ are always available on our bar, as well as our ever-rotating selection of guest ales.

Over the last 20 years many new breweries have sprung up in the Vale of York area too, Jolly Sailor Brewery of Selby, Rudgate Brewery based near Tockwith and Yorkshire Heart Brewery based just south of Thirsk are all regularly available on our bar.

Recently one or two of our much-loved local breweries have sadly closed their doors. Bad Seed Brewery of Malton stopped brewing a couple of month ago after 10 years of brewing excellent award-winning ales, sighting the pandemic and cost-of-living crisis as key reasons for a decline in demand. Nationally the increase in energy and ingredient costs have significantly impacted the brewery trade, so if you love beer, and love pubs it is why it is so important to support your both your Local and LocAle.
