Life in a moorland inn

Christmas was a very busy period for us at the Coach House Inn. Our regular seasonal events were excellently attended by both locals and visitors to the area.

Our annual Christmas numbers draw took place on the 23rd of December, with a bounty of kindly donated prizes to win. We raised a record amount of £1,050 which was shared equally between Rosedale Abbey School, St. Mary and St. Lawrence Church and Rosedale Football Club.

Christmas Eve was very special starting with Carols lead by Howard followed by a traditional Rosedale night of dominoes. An especially large number of contestants competed, with the final contested by three Hartoft residents and one from Rosedale Abbey, and the 2025 champion was Maddie, keeping the title in the village yet again. The night was capped off with a couple of games of Human Bingo and Heads & Tails, before heading home to wait for the arrival of Father Christmas. A traditional Rosedale Christmas Eve.

The bar was open for drinks only for what turned out to be a very busy Christmas day.

Our annual Pool and Darts knockout tournaments were both won by Rosedale Football Clubs Jim-Bob Dunn, a raider from Bransdale.

New Years Eve as always was a huge event for us, we could have filled tables twice over for pre-event meals and we had a waiting list in place in case of cancellations. Howard provided us with three brilliant sets a head of the mid-night hour, when the disco continued to fill the dance floor.

January has now arrived with a bang, bringing heavy snow and ice to the Moors in the early part of the month, most of the cross-moor roads were blocked and movement around the dale was challenging for both staff and customers. No power cuts for us so far though.

A massive thank you to everyone who attended our Christmas events, it is a very long winter in Rosedale and the festive period is so important to us. We look forward to welcoming you back to the Coach House Inn over the winter months.
